서울 성수동 컨셉 스토어에서 선보이는 LADY DIOR CELEBRATION 전시회

2023년 9월 1일, 디올이 서울 성수동 컨셉스토어에서 Lady Dior Celebration 전시회를 개최했습니다. 디올과 한국의 견고한 인연을 기념하며, 끊임없이 재창조되는 시대를 초월한 아이콘 Lady Dior의 특별한 역사와 이에 깃들어 있는 뛰어난 장인정신을 조명합니다.

꿈과 감성의 미학을 담은 이번 전시에서는 한국의 상징적인 아티스트 24인, 박선기(Bahk Seon Ghi), 최정화(Choi Jeong Hwa), 지지수(Gigisue), 김홍석(Gimhongsok), 하종현(Ha Chong-Hyun), 김희원(Heewon Kim), 오세정(Jay Sae Jung Oh), 이지아(Jia Lee), 권죽희(Jukhee Kwon), 이정진(Jungjin Lee), 홍정표(Jungpyo Hong), 이광호(Kwangho Lee), 천경우(Kyungwoo Chun), 이불(Lee Bul), 이헌정(Lee Hun Chung), 이건용(Lee Kun-Yong), 김민정(Minjung Kim), 오유경(Oh You Kyeong), 황란(Ran Hwang), 수 써니 박(Soo Sunny Park), 강서경(Suki Seokyeong Kang), 박원민(Wonmin Park), 윤예섬(Yesum Yoon), 제이디 차(Zadie Xa)가 재해석한 42점의 작품들을 만나볼 수 있습니다.

Someone’s shadow _LADY DIOR "Someone's shadow는 크리스챤 디올의 독창적인 정신이 남긴 유산을 디올의 가장 아이코닉한 아이템인 다이애나 왕세자비의 Lady Dior과 함께 기념합니다. 백의 모티브로 활용된 나폴레옹 3세의 의자와 그 시그니처 까나쥬 디자인에 무슈 디올이 특별한 애착을 가졌다는 것은 익히 알려진 사실입니다.

물론 Lady Dior은 그 자체로 화려한 디자인이 돋보이는 작품이죠. 하지만 백을 마주한 순간, 저는 백에 진정으로 영향을 미친 요소와 백에 깃든 아름다운 정신을 세상에 알려야겠다고 생각했습니다. 이들 역시 백만큼 귀중한 가치를 지니고 있으니까요.

작품을 제작하는 과정에서는 백의 아름다움을 표현하기 위해 그림자를 활용했습니다. 겉으로 드러나는 아름다움은 실제 백을 통해 확인할 수 있고, 백의 본질과도 같은 내면의 아름다움은 빛을 투영하여 연출한 까나쥬 패턴의 그림자를 통해 만나볼 수 있습니다.백과 까나쥬 그림자가 만나, 백의 영원한 아름다움을 엿볼 수 있는 완벽한 앙상블이 탄생합니다." 김희원

"Someone's shadow is about commemorating the legacy of Christian Dior’s creative spirit in conjunction with one of the fashion house‘s most iconic items, Princess Diana’s Lady Dior.

As it is well known, Monsieur Dior had a strong affinity for Napoleon III's chair and its signature cannage seating, that served as the motif for the bag itself. Of course, the Lady Dior itself has a striking appearance.

But when I saw the bag, I wanted to show the world the true inspiration and spirit of beauty it had, which indeed was equally valuable. To create the work, I worked with shadows as a representation of the essence of the bag’s beauty.

The external beauty is shown through the actual bag itself, while the internal beauty, the essence, would be shown through the projected cannage pattern shadow.

Combined together, the bag itself and the cannage shadow of the bag create the perfect ensemble of its eternal beauty." HEEWON KIM

100년 전통의 독일 명품 라이카 카메라가 계묘년의 첫 전시를 사진작가 김희원과 함께한다. 이번 사진전은 라이카 카메라 청담점과 판교점에서 동시 진행되며 2월부터 4월까지 약 두 달간 만나볼 수 있다.

김희원 작가와 함께하는 이번 라이카 카메라의 사진전 ‘Mirrors and Windows’는 1978년 MOMA에서 John Szarkowski가 기획했던 전시의 이름과 동일하다. 작가는 미국 사진가들의 작품을 사진에 자신을 투사하는 ‘Mirror’ 유형과 사진을 통해 외부를 바라보는 ‘Window’ 유형으로 구분했다. ‘Mirror’와 ‘Window’로 구분된 사진 작품은 작가 자신에게도, 사진을 바라보는 감상자에게도 자신의 삶을 들여다보고 고찰하는 시간을 갖게 한다.

At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has made mask -wearing part of our daily routines, the MMCA Collection Exhibition Masquerade showcases contemporary artists’ in- depth explorations of the symbolic meaning of covering one’s face.

The theme of “masks” has profound meaning in the contemporary visual environment. Internationally -recognized masquerades and mask performances; masked movie heroes and villains; puppetry; and virtual avatars and role-playing games are a deeply ingrained part of our daily lives, and have prompted contemporary artists to interpret masks, which have long been a subject of study, using various approaches. For contemporary artists, masks are two-sided tools that can both reduce or increase the distance between strangers. They are also objects of hypocrisy that conceal the truth as well as a culture steeped in convention and prejudice. Masquerade invites viewers to compare the meanings and daily functions of masks and their visual interpretations in contemporary art.

The exhibition displays 41 artworks by contemporary artists, including Kwon Jinkyu, Nam Kwan, Christian Boltanski, Sung Neungkyung, Kim Jungwook, and Zach Blas. Instead of being divided into sections, the exhibition makes use of the spatial characteristics of the circular gallery to create a natural flow, allowing viewers to make direct and indirect connections between the artworks. Partitions, installation materials, and lighting from previous exhibitions have been reused as part of the MMCA’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The exhibition will be on view from 13 April to 31 July 2022 at MMCA Gwacheon.

#18. KIM Heewon, Someone's Chandelier

KIM Heewon is an artist whose work explores the ambiguous area between reality and image. Someone's Chandelier is an ultra-high-definition video of an antique European-style chandelier, which might have been part of a familiar everyday scenery of ‘someone.’ The video plays for four hours and thirty minutes as the candles on the chandelier burn out by themselves. The television screen on which the artist’s video is played also works as a kind of lighting with its illumination. It is true that the scene of a chandelier draws admiration, but it soon becomes a familiar feeling and part of a given environment. In this sense, KIM Heewon’s video will also become part of our environment sooner or later. Both the video on the screen and the image in the wood frame even convey the change of time and our senses. It would then be possible to say that the two objects perform the same function in both aesthetic and functional aspects. If this is the case, can anyone easily say that the video representation of the chandelier is merely imitating its existence in reality?

«가면무도회»는 COVID-19 대유행으로 마스크 착용이 별안간 일상이 되어버린 시대에 얼굴을 가리는 행위의 상징적 의미에 대한 현대미술작가들의 오랜 탐구 사례들을 한 자리에 모았다.

‘가면’이라는 주제는 동시대의 시각 환경에서 무시할 수 없는 의미를 가진다. 세계적인 가면무도회나 탈놀이, 각종 영화에 등장하는 가면 쓴 영웅과 악당, 인형극, 그리고 현대인의 일상에 깊숙이 들어온 가상세계 속 아바타나 롤플레잉 게임 등은 현대미술 동시대 작가들에게 가면의 의미와 해석에 대한 다양한 접근을 이끌어내고 있다. 관람객들은 이번 전시에서 현대미술이 해석한 가면의 이미지와 일상가면의 의미와 기능을 비교 감상할 수 있다.

전시에는 권진규, 남관, 크리스티앙 볼탕스키, 성능경, 김정욱, 자크 블라스 등 현대미술 작가들의 작품 40여 점이 출품된다. 과천관 1원형전시실의 구조적 특성을 살려 의도적인 구획을 나누는 대신 관람객들이 작품 간의 관계를 직ㆍ간접적으로 유추할 수 있도록 전시 흐름이 자연스럽게 구성되었다. 또한 탄소 배출 저감 실천의 일환으로 이전 전시에 사용되었던 가벽과 각종 구조물, 조명 등을 최대한 활용했다. «가면무도회»는 과천관 1원형전시실에서 2022년 4월 13일부터 7월 31일까지 진행된다.

최근 소위 말하는 '물멍', '불멍'이 유행입니다.

멈춘 듯, 멈춰있지 않은 풍경을 멍하니 바라보며

고요함을 느끼는 동시에 마음의 평안을 찾는 것이죠..

김희원의 ‹누군가의 샹들리에›는 촛불이 다 타서 꺼지기까지

약 4시간 30분 동안의 시간을 초고화질 동영상으로 기록한 것입니다.

여기서 실제 밝게 빛나는 것은 영상이 재생되는 화면이라는 점에서

TV도 샹들리에와 같은 조명기구의 역할도 하고 있습니다.

처음에는 감탄을 자아내는 고풍스러운 샹들리에도

시간이 지나면 일종의 익숙한 환경으로 느껴지듯

화면의 불빛도 점차 감각 밖으로 벗어나 버리기 마련입니다.

이렇게 실제의 샹들리에와 영상 속의 샹들리에 모두

시간의 흐름을 통한 감각의 변화까지도 우리에게 전해줍니다.

이런데도 영상으로 재현된 샹들리에가

그저 현실의 샹들리에를 흉내 낸 ‹가면›에 불과한 것일까요?

용인 고택은 장욱진의 삶과 경험이 축적된 공간이자 예술혼을 불태웠던 아뜰리에다.

작가는 장욱진이 보고 느꼈던 공간들을 재해석하여 그의 예술적 원천과 그가 꿈꿔왔던 세계란 무엇이었는지를 찾아보고자 했다.

Kim Heewon photographed this image in Milan’s Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, which is housed in Napoléon’s former in-town residence Villa Belgiojoso Bonaparte. When the present work, depicting a partially opened balcony door in 1:1 scale, is displayed on a wall, it functions to further extend both space and time. The illusionary effect of Kim’s composition is that it not only transforms and expands the space in which it is hung but also transports the viewer to another place and time. In his ongoing Someone’s Window series, he asks, ‘what would it be like to step into the shoes of the extraordinary and see what they see?’ Kim is a multimedia artist whose creative output spans multiple fields, including photography, video and design. His work resides in various collections, including the Rossana Orlandi Collection, Italy and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.

We commence with darkness. A hand holding a lit match enters the frame and slowly lights the candles one by one. For over seven hours the candles of the two-tiered chandelier burn until each one has burned out, returning to darkness. Kim Heewon’s Someone's Chandelier 01 is a stunning video work that represents its subject in actual scale and in real time. This hypnotic work induces a feeling of tranquillity in the viewer as the candles gently burn and the light fades. 

While living in Paris in the early days of his practice, Kim Heewon deliberately turned off his electricity, choosing to live by candlelight. Fascinated by the flickering light and how it made him feel, he embarked on this on-going series, which began with candles then evolved into chandeliers – a larger light source and a symbol of luxury in a bygone era. His use of the latest technologies to evoke certain emotions associated with the past enabled him ‘to connect the past to the present both in function and communication.

The present work is the first chandelier video in the series. The chandelier, featured in the video, was sourced by a European antique collector in Korea and the filming took more than three days: 

The average burning time for a candle is seven hours, but there are so many variables – the wax may melt in the wrong way distorting the visibility, for example, or some candles may burn faster or longer than others – that it takes an extensive amount of additional time adjusting and re-filming.

Kim Heewon is a multimedia artist whose creative output spans multiple fields, including photography, video and design. In 2012 he collaborated with New York's Moss, legendary design mecca, for the Venice Architecture Biennale and his work has been exhibited at Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea. His work resides in various collections, including Rossana Orlandi Collection, Italy and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.

Passing moments in time                                                                       The Pictures and videos hold the paths in Changgyeonggung and the Secret Garden of Changdeokgung where the nature-loving King Jeongjo used to take walks. Various Images of the scenery as reflected on the surface of water have been superposed to express the theme of "simple" , making it a serene and beautiful place of rest.

정조의 여가생활과 사적인 시간, 궁중생활문화를 소개하며 지난해에 진행된 <서화취미 書畫趣味>전에 이어 올해에는 정조의 모습을 현재로 불러와 새로운 시각으로 재해석하고 현대 예술 작가들의 작품으로 공간을 꾸민 <담백 淡白>전을 선보입니다.
이번 전시에서는 정조의 검박한 성품을 ‘욕심이 없고 마음이 깨끗하다’, ‘빛깔이 진하지 않고 산뜻하다’는 의미인 ‘담백(淡白)’이라는 단어로 표현하고 전시의 주제로 삼았습니다.
찰나, 여백, 휴식, 사유, 손길이라는 5개의 테마로 전시를 구성했으며 청렴, 청빈, 순수의 상장인 ‘백색’과 ‘여백의 미’를 강조한 작품으로 정조의 검소함을 표현한 것이 특징입니다.

Someone's candle is a new way of lighting which runs 5 hours 17 minutes 06 seconds in the space. 

As soon as someone presses the start button, it starts lighting up the candle and then it burns as real time. 

It creates a calm and peaceful atmosphere. 

Someone's candle is filmed using a 4K camera and displayed on a 27inch LED display.

"It all started from my humble wish to have a moment of inspiration with the master of the room, looking through his/her perspective. For this moment of inspiration and transcendence of time and space, I wish to share it with the viewer. The subjects whose perspective I chose to capture come from various backgrounds, but one thing they share is they are each respectable people in their own right. My works display the views from the windows of the rooms in which these people spent most of their time in. By displaying the views from the windows of these individuals, it creates a mood, atmosphere, and environment so that the viewers can experience the same desires that these individuals experienced. By attaching «Someone’s window» on the wall instead of paintings, it transports you to a differentp lace and time, or Trompe-l’oeil, and transforms the viewer’s disposition and frame of mind". J’ai voulu faire partager au public ce moment d’inspiration et de transcendance dans le temps et l’espace. Mon travail montre une vue depuis une fenêtre où les gens passent beaucoup de temps à rêver devant. Il se créer une humeur, une atmosphère et un environment que chaque spectateur ressent. 시간이 흐르고, 그 시간 속에서 변하는 것들은 추억이 된다. 추억은 익숙함으로 서서히 희미해지며, 우리의 기억에 잔잔함으로 남게된다. 시간은 다시 흘러 익숙해진 것들은 더이상 보이지 않게 되고, 이제는 그 속에서 만들어진 새로운 것들이 자리 잡는다. 공간과 흔적에 대한 탐구에서 시작하여 사물과의 대입에서 발생되는 사건들의 중첩과 시공간의 차이점은 오브제로 표현된다. 흔적은 우리 삶 속에 가장 잔잔하게 스며들어 존재하지 않은 듯 존재하게 된다. 
 < 흔적> 연작은 우리의 삶 속에 남아있는 잔잔하고 깊은 흔적들을 다시 재조명함으로써 삶의 공간으로 자연스럽게 스며듦을 포착하고 있다.

Time flows and the things that have changed with time become reminiscence.
Such reminiscence gradually fades away with familiar feelings, leaving a certain sense of tranquility among our memories. Time flows again and familiar things are not visible any longer and new objects made amidst start to take up their places. 

Beginning from the study on space and trace, overlapping of incidents which arose from the substitution of objects and the difference of time and space are expressed with objets. in this way, the trace is absorbed in our lives discreetly and exists as if it is not existent. The series Trace reflects on the calm and profound traces remnant in our lives and captures its natural permeation into the spaces of our life.

01 _Thonet on Canvas
Thonet(토넷) 의자를 리디자인한 이번 프로젝트는 송은 아트스페이스 공간을 위한 Be my guest 김희원 디자이너의 사진을 이용한 디자인 언어로 재해석이다.

Thonet 의자는 벤딩 기술로 유명한 유닛들의 조합으로 조립식 가구의 기원이라고 할 수 있다. 김희원 디자이너는 의자를  구성하는 하나하나의 요소를 해체하는 작업부터 사진으로 담아내며, 기존 의자가 사용한 작은 유닛을 피스로 고정하는 대신, 자르고 붙이는 과정 그리고 그 과정을 사진으로 담아내며 관찰한 그림자를 통해 재해석하기 시작했다.  

Thonet 의자를 반으로 자른 후, 사진 스튜디오에서 조명을 의자에 비추고, 그로인해 생기는 그림자가 마치 하나의 의자 모양을 만든 이번 작업들은 술을 마셨을때 느낄 수 있는 기분과 현상을 어떻게 의자에 반영할 수 있을지에 관한 글에서 시작되었다.

구성 : 캔버스,  자른 의자, 그 의자를 벽에 붙이고 조명으로 만들어낸 1:1 사이즈의 그림자

Heewon Kim a été séletionné avec la complicité de Julia Juyeon, rédactrice en chef du magazine ELLE DÉCORATION Corée.

Ce designer, photographe et graphiste, partage son temps entre Paris, Milan et Séoul et tout endroit où il peut développer un projet.
 

Il essaie << de voyager et de connaître plein d'autres villes>> au gré de ses curiosités. Il a commencé par dessiner des objets pour remplir les espaces laissés vides par la photographie et continue à mélanger les genres. Il revisite sur un mode contemporain le mobilier traditionnel, chaises et tables. En paralléle, il réalise une installation vidéo autour du portrait. Mais il ne faut pas oublier ses réalisations en cours à Milan, New York, Amsterdam, et en Corée...

Someone's Window Series

"Someone's Window" is a project about respect.

Most people live in a four sided room with one door and possibly a window.

By attaching "Someone's window" on the wall instead of paintings, it transports you to a different place and time, or Trompe-l'oeil, and transforms the viewer's disposition and frame of mind.

LLOYD TIME ON BOXING DAY

크리스마스 기간동안, The Exchange hotel 프로젝트에서 photographer로 참여했던 디자이너 김희원의 네델란드 사람들을 위한 호텔 공간디자인입니다.

암스테르담에 위치한 LLOYD HOTEL(로이드호텔)은 호텔 내에 별 하나에서 부터 다섯까지의 방을 가지고 있는 오랜 역사를 가지고 있는 호텔입니다.

"호텔에 왔던 사람들이 집에 돌아왔을때 어떤 추억을 갖게되고, 손에는 어떤 선물이 들려있을까? 라는 질문에서부터 접근했습니다. 그 선물은 네델란드의 문화를 반영했으면 했고, 그 오브제를 바라볼때 가족이 더 따뜻함을 느꼈으면 했습니다.

행사가 시작되면, 
1 _튤립꽃 종이접기와 가위, 펜을 나눠주고 
2 _꽃과 나뭇잎 뒷면에 가족끼리 메세지를 적고, 자르고 붙이면 집에 가져가 꽂아놓고 간직할 수 있는 시들지 않는 꽃을 만듭니다.

LLOYD HOTEL의 디렉터 Suzanne Oxenaar에게 의뢰를 받은 LLOYD TIME ON BOXING DAY에서, 그는 호텔이라는 기존의 이미지를 주민과 가족, 투숙객이 함께 추억을 만들어갈 수 있는 편안한 곳으로 바꾸었습니다.

크리스마스 연휴 기간(24, 25,26)동안 기존 객실 가격에 비해 절반이하의 가격으로 낮추어 동네 주민을 초대하였고, 지난해의 투숙객의 수와 비교해 호텔측에 더 큰 수익률을 제공했습니다.

5시부터 새벽1시까지 3층 공간의 바닥에 침대를 깔아 사람들이 편안하게 앉거나 누울 수 있는 분위기를 조성하고, 식사도 레스토랑이 아닌 대형침대 위에서 할 수 있는 시스템을 제안했습니다.

가족이 편안하게 볼 수 있는 영화를 상영하고, 2층에는 아이들이 뛰어놀 수 있는 공간과 장난감 등을 준비해두며, 어른들에게는 Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunsten (라익스 아카데미) 아티스트를 초청해 그들의 작업을 소개받는 시간으로 기획해 움직이지 않고, 아티스트에게 직접 작업을 설명들을 수 있는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다.  

 크리스마스 연휴를 보낸 가족이, 한 해를 마무리함과 새로운 한 해를 맞이하는 의미를 호텔이라는 공간에서 제공함으로 호텔을 더 친근하고 추억이 있는 공간으로 만든 프로젝트입니다.

Ce que j'espère en exposant les fenêtres de Corée en France 

Exposer les fênetres de Corée à Paris ? Je me demande quel effet cela pourrait donner. Mon travail n'est pas tant de proposer un beau paysage ou une belle vue à travers une fenêtre que de montrer cette vue à partir du regard d'un roi coréen. J'essaie d'imaginer l'effet du déplacement de ce regard du roi à un autre endroit et souhaite que les gens qui regardent mon travail puissent ressentir cet autre regard lorsqu'ils s'approchent d'une autre culture..

_과연 파리라는 공간에서 한국의 창이 보여졌을 때, 어떤 영향을 미칠지 궁금했습니다.

그저 아름다운 풍경의 창이라기 보다 ,한국의 왕이 바라보시던 시선을 다른 공간에 옮겨놨을 때의 가능성을 생각하고 싶었고, 그것을 보는 사람들이 다른 문화에 대해 접근을 할 때, 누군가가 바라보던 시선을 조금이나마 느낄 수 있었으면 하는 마음으로 작업했습니다.

This pavilion, built on the pond west of Gangnyeongjeon, the king's living quarters, was where the king threw feasts for foreign envoys or his court officials. The name means that the king is capable of handling national affairs only when he has the right people around him, it was used on joyous occasions.

Korean craft professionals are exhibiting in Paris at Maison&Objet and the International Heritage Show, while their French counterparts have been invited to the Craft and Trend Fair in Seoul. In addition, the Collection gallery of Ateliers d'Art de France is hosting a selection of Korean ceramists in September and the gallery of the Korean Craft and Design Foundation will return the favor in January 2012.

2nd Spatial Exploration at MoA to provide assistance for participating artists.
Like their predecessors, the 2nd part artists became the audience/observers in the gallery with the same theme for two months, and utilized the building itself as the theme, which was designed by architect Rem Koolhaas.

The focuses of these designer-turned artists Byoungil Choi, Min-Kyu Choi and Heewon Kim, who were selected for the second part of this program in 2011, were going behind the space of this white cube- shaped gallery.

 
 

They dared to include the gallery windows part of their work, remove the boundaries between outside landscaping and inside building, and even bring personal luggage. The "non-placeness" and "timelessness" exuded by the white cube were seen nowhere.

The theme of the Spatial Exploration at MoA provided the opportunity or limitation for physical workframe, but not inside art. With no governing concept, each of the art pieces were set free as an independent term under the gallery providing itself a material. As it turns out, each item shaped a direct connection with others, and at their core was the event peaked. It was just like an early-morning farmers' market on a weekend.

“Ti Porta”

_is a series of photographs of gallery hallway doors. 
Every photograph from the collection shows a door frame and the connected space through the opening.

The works are installed on the 2nd and 3rd floor of Hotel NH in Zona Tortona, Milano.  

As an interior designer, I noticed the fact that doors were way too neglected, and decided to give them significance by attaching photographic prints from my photograpy collection "Gallery Doors".

As a result, an ordinary door which resembles closed space becomes open and gives a new sensation to the viewer as if he/she were transcending space and time.

This approach is to give the viewer reminiscence and nostalgia as well a feel of transcending space and time.

A door is an essential element in most spaces.

But normally people do not care much about choosing doors.
Unfortunately, while choosing it, what they consider are only matching colors or materials.

By attaching a photo of doors on the surface, you could feel a different atmosphere in the space you are in as if you are in a gallery or in another space.

These are the projects which I took photos of while working as a magazine photographer since last year.
Whenever I had the chance to travel around Europe, I took photos of doors in galleries and museums which had other continuous doors and pathways inside.
As a result, I wanted to inspire people after they came back from their journey to keep the memory of the space they were once at.

Flower has a lot in common with love

Like each person has a different taste,
Like people love for the loved ones,
Like the beauty changes as time passes,
And that as time passes we fade into nature and become apart of it and so on

I truly hoped that the flower which was gifted by someone or gifted to someone
Wasn’t just a flower that blooms and fades away
But a flower that can be kept in a space as a piece of artwork with a different meaning
people love for the loved ones
As if your loved one has left
But still in one part of your heart the memory remains……
